Code Black

There was a "Code Black" at the hospital and there I was nine months pregnant. The nurse came into my room and told Blake and I that we had to be moved into the safe room. I was surrounded by other pregnant ladies as well, one of which who was in the middle of labor. I prayed that our little girl would hold on till the storm was over. I couldn't imagine giving birth without power in the hospital or a even a working monitor. My mom had traveled from Seattle for Molly's birth and was holding down the fort in Grapevine. I called her from the safe room in the hospital while my cell phone still had reception and told her to hunker down with the cat during the storm. As I watched the lady in labor and another recuperating from a C-section I became terrified. How the HECK was I supposed to deliver this child?

The storm finally ceased, but my nerves were still raging. I barely slept that night, obsessed with the monitor and my little baby's heart beat. When the morning finally came the doctor gave me Petocin (sp?). Man I hate that stuff. The contractions came harder and faster, but I still didn't dilate. They broke my water and still nothing. Finally the C-section was inevitable and they wheeled me in. I prided myself on laboring 6 hours without an epidural... I'd like to say I could have had a natural birth ;)

6:18 PM. She was perfect. My angel was born. There was nothing in the world that could have prepared me for the love I felt in that moment.

One year later (exactly)...

It's been a year and I can still remember that moment. My angel can walk now but I still picture her cradled in my arms. Blake and I dressed her in a birthday onsie and went outside at 6:18 PM. We blew out a candle and gave her a kiss. I was looking a little disheveled due to the 200 cupcakes I had been baking for the party, but who cares. My little girl is one and I can't believe it.
Happy Birthday Molly, we love you!

Molly was a beautiful newborn - seriously that is remarkable because most babies are ugly newborns (sorry if I offend anyone, it's just my opinion)!
And, great party! It was fun for adults and for the kiddos! Daniel has been toting around his bag and bandana all day!
