A True Texan!

What makes someone a true Texan? I've been living here for a little over a year and I think I've finally figured it out. I used to think that a person must be born and raised in Texas to be a true Texan, but it is much more than that.

Saturday we went to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. I put on my best cowboy attire and old straw hat to try and fit in with the rest of the "Good Ol' Boys". We made it to to the rodeo in time for the national anthem and prayer--yes, they pray before every rodeo. Texas isn't afraid to proclaim that this nation is founded under God! In fact, they would probably kick you out if you believed otherwise.

We watched the cowboys rope cattle, barrel race, ride bulls, broncos... even a monkey ride a sheep dog! I stuffed my face with funnel cake and Texas BBQ before taking Molly to the petting zoo. Words can't describe what she thought of the animals, so you'll have to watch the video I uploaded.

My mother-in-law got me one of the greatest birthday presents ever--my first cowboy hat! Texans could care less what brand of purse you have, but they sure check out your cowboy hat and boots. My hat was turning heads for the rest of the day. I'm determined to be a cowgirl now!

I used to get so annoyed with my Texas roommates at BYU. I remember Texas shower curtains, hot pads, pillows, magnets, towels, lamps (don't make me go on because there's more). Why do Texans have so much pride? I think I'm starting to understand why. Texas is genuine, exciting, religious, beautiful and big. The reason you don't mess with Texas is because there's a whole state of people ready to defend its honor!

You don't have to be born and raised in Texas to appreciate how wonderful it is. All I had to do was put on a cowboy hat and they welcomed me with open arms!

I love Texas (not really the geography but the Texasness of it all) and totally understand what all of the hype is about.

I love that this state loves God and is not afraid to stand up for the Being in which our country was founded upon.

I love the charm bracelets, too.
